COLONEL DAVID B JOHNSON

Col. David B. Johnson is Commander, 121st Air Refueling Wing, Ohio Air National Guard located at Rickenbacker International Airport, Columbus, Ohio.  He is responsible to the Ohio Assistant Adjutant General for Air to ensure the wing’s 1,200 Airmen are ready to deploy in support of our communities, state and nation in both homeland defense and federal missions.

 

He joined the 121st Tactical Fighter Wing in 1986, assigned to the Consolidated Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, as a Jet Engine Mechanic on the A-7D. He graduated from The Ohio State University in 1993 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Aviation-Management. 

 

Col. Johnson was awarded Distinguished Graduate at the Academy of Military Science in 1994. He attended Undergraduate Pilot Training at Laughlin Air Force Base, Texas, followed by KC-135R flight training at Altus Air Force Base (AFB), Okla. He returned to the 121st Air Refueling Wing (ARW), Ohio ANG located at Rickenbacker International Airport, as a traditional guardsman. He has served as a First Officer with a major American airline and worked as a dual status military technician with the 121st ARW in a multitude of roles to include: Current Operations Planner, 145th Air Refueling Squadron Pilot Scheduler, 166th Air Refueling Squadron Flight Training Officer, 166th Air Refueling Squadron Flight Commander, 166th Air Refueling Squadron Assistant Operations Officer, 145th Air Refueling Squadron Commander and 166th Air Refueling Squadron Commander. He participated in Operations Decisive Endeavor, Deliberate Guard, Southern Watch, Joint Guard, Phoenix Scorpion III, Noble Eagle, Northern Watch, Iraqi Freedom & Enduring Freedom. He is a Command Pilot with over 5000 hours in the T-41, T-37, T-1A, KC-135R/T and MD-80 aircraft.
